Marketing & Branding

Identity and Image. This is what Branding and Marketing is about. To a designer, it is very satisfying to see the Identity you created, growing and creating an image that cannot be ignored. This is a common goal for every single company out there. Creating an image is one of the most powerful things that a designer can do. We aim for people to identify with this image, and this is what sells you service or product.

The American Marketing Association defines a brand as a “Name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers. A brand may identify one item, a family of items, or all items of that seller. If used for the firm as a whole, the preferred term is trade name.”

The recognition and perception of a brand is highly influenced by its visual presentation. A brand’s visual identity is the overall look of its communications. Effective visual brand identity is achieved by the consistent use of particular visual elements to create distinction, such as specific fonts, colors, and graphic elements.

The Process

The Process I use for for web design and branding is exactly the same. I find it to be quite effective and easy to follow.

After the initial meeting with the client, I do sufficient research on the clients needs, and then I draw up anything between 3 and 5 concepts in a notebook. After I have done this, I create the designs on my PC, and if I am happy with the designs, I forward it to the client.

Feedback and Application

After I received feedback from the client, I start to design the final product, and I constantly update the client on my progress. I also find the necessary quotes that suits your requirements. for the products that need printing.

Final Product

The final stage of the process is the handover stage. Depending on the client’s needs and/or possible future work – I give the clients the high resolution files of the designs (in some cases the vector files). I also make sure that the quality of the final product exceeds the clients expectations.

My Design Tools

I mainly work in Adobe’s Creative Suite. My favorite design application is Adobe’s Illustrator. I mostly start my designs in Illustrator and then take it to other applications to finish off the designs. I have an extensive knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Flash. I have given training in both Illustrator and Flash.

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe’s Illustrator is definitely one of my favorite designing applications out there. It’s graphics can be used in almost any design application out there. Whether your designing a website with glossy buttons or if your designing a detail rich column in Maya – Illustrator is the best place to start. The possibilities are infinite!

Adobe InDesign

InDesign is an awesome application with all the print features in one place. InDesign focuses on on the layout of anything that you need to print – magazines, booklets, training manuals and flyers is just the tip of the iceberg. InDesign also allows a designer to setup other printing processes in the same file. Foiling, embossing and dye-cuts is childs play if you know what you are doing in InDesign.
